Graduate Consultant Role

Make an impact from day one

Grow your career alongside the best and brightest as we translate clients’ ambitions into real world outcomes together.

When you join Newton you become part of a global strategic delivery consultancy working with governments, public sector organizations and leading brands to realize their ambitions and meet their most complex challenges. We are renowned for our deep, hands-on commitment, working in partnership with clients to get things done.

For 25 years we have been delivering positive change and measurable impact for our clients, their people and the communities they serve. Our international ambitions continue to grow, and we are now recruiting a new cohort of consultants to help build and shape our presence in the North America.

From day one you’ll help us deliver the Newton difference – our tenacious, deeply-committed and intelligent people-first approach. We are intensely collaborative, and go as deep as it takes to achieve meaningful, enduring results for our clients.

We’ll ask you to take ownership and responsibility from the very start, working alongside clients on the ground to build better outcomes, from future-ready transport to sustainable consumer strategy, and healthcare innovations to reimagined public services. As you hone your skills and take on new challenges, you’ll also travel and experience new cultures first-hand, build lasting friendships with your remarkable teammates, grow in confidence and have fun.

Working at Newton

The Newton Consulting role

As a Consultant, you’ll work alongside clients and colleagues within a workstream to deliver inspiring, measurable results. Your work will be varied and challenging, and you’ll build a growing expertise by implementing Newton Core: our unique approach to problem-solving, client engagement and project delivery. With every project, you’ll form strong relationships with our clients, and help them build the capabilities to continue solving future challenges without us.

In-depth, hands-on training

We help you build a broad skillset as a Consultant over your first two years with us. This ensures you understand our business well and encourages you to explore your skillset and natural strengths in diverse settings and teams. It’s a crucial time for building the fundamentals of consulting and the Newton methodology. All our consultants need to possess this core skillset to thrive, regardless of the particular areas you work in while at Newton.

As an Operations Consultant, you’ll work closely with a variety of clients, mapping processes and analysing data to identify opportunities for operational improvement. You’ll plan and implement the changes needed to realise value and deliver lasting impact. You’ll work on-site, from the factory floor to the boardroom, and everywhere in between. Every project and every client is different, but our commitment to creating enduring value for them doesn’t change.

Specialising further

Once you’ve completed your core training you can choose to continue as a Consultant or direct your skills further in one of two key areas:

01

Digital & AI

Connected and future-focused, our Digital Consultants identify where data and technology can benefit an organisation. Whether that is using new tech or building our own solutions, Digital Consultants bring industry-leading, even industry-changing, solutions to our clients’ challenges.

02

People & Change

Consulting isn’t a faceless business. At the heart of everything we do, there are people. Our People & Change experts ensure the change we bring to our clients comes to life for their people. Whether implementing digital, operational or cultural changes, they work alongside the people within our client organisations to manage change before, during and beyond implementation.

Application process

We keep it simple

Our application is as efficient as the way we work – no cover letter required, and completion in as little as a month. We welcome applications from final year undergraduates and early career professionals, and from a wide range of academic backgrounds – there is no single ‘right’ degree.

1

Application Form

Start by completing a short online form covering your education, work experience, and achievements. We welcome applicants from all academic backgrounds, though we do have a minimum UCAS benchmark of AAB at A-Level or equivalent. In some cases – such as where socio-economic background or extenuating circumstances may have impacted academic performance – additional context can be considered through our contextual recruitment approach, so it may still be worth applying even if you’re a few grades short.

2

Online Assessments

This stage includes a series of assessments designed to evaluate your cognitive ability and suitability for Newton. You’ll begin with a Realistic Job Preview Quiz, which isn’t assessed, and helps you decide if Newton is the right fit for you. Next, you’ll complete a cognitive assessment covering logical reasoning, numerical skills, and data interpretation, followed by a behavioural assessment.

3

Video Interview

This short one-way video interview is your chance to let your personality shine. You’ll answer three questions about your experiences, so be yourself and show us your communication skills. We have real assessors – not AI – screening these so treat it like an in-person interview.

4

Selection Day

Our virtual assessment centre is a chance to really get to know each other. You’ll take part in a group exercise, technical tasks, and a mini-interview – all based on real Newton case studies to give you insight into our work. You’ll also meet some of our consultants and have the opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A. We recommend brushing up on your numerical skills and preparing for the interview.

5

Final Interview

This stage begins with an informal dinner the evening before, where you’ll meet Newton consultants and have the chance to ask questions about our work, culture, and life at Newton. The dinner is not assessed and is a great opportunity to learn as much as you’d like. The following day, you’ll take part in two 45-minute interviews with senior team members – one focused on your skills and experiences, and the other a technical case study where you’ll work through complex problems with your assessors.

6

Offer

Got the job? Fantastic, we’ll look forward to welcoming you to the team! While you wait for your start date, we’ll stay in contact via regular newsletters and offer you the opportunity to join us at an Offer Holder Review Day.

What we look for

We assess every applicant on their individual merits. Above all we look for analytical problem-solving skills and commitment to going the extra mile for our clients. These are the qualities that enable us to deliver the lasting impact our clients need.

More about the role

Still curious about consulting?

How often will I be expected to travel?

Consultants typically travel Monday through Thursday and return home for weekends. Projects may occasionally require longer periods away from home or international assignments depending on client needs.

Will I have to relocate to the UK?

Most US Consultants will spend most of their time on North America projects. However, building a new practice involves some flexibility. When required, Consultants may work in the UK or other client locations for extended periods. All candidates should be prepared to work internationally. These stints can last several months and will result in longer periods without travelling home

Can I apply for a Consultant role in the UK?

Yes. Candidates in North America can apply to the UK graduate intake, which runs as a separate recruitment process with its own salary, benefits and employment terms. The Consultant role is globally consistent, but contracts are country-specific, and joining one scheme does not guarantee a future transfer between roles or locations. For the North America Consultant role, international mobilityis expected. Consultants should be open to working on projects in the UK and other geographies, with mobility driven by project needs rather than permanent relocation.

How does Newton differ from other consultancies?

Newton combines strategic thinking with hands on delivery, guarantees outcomes and immerses Consultants in client work and sites. Our performance-based model means we are accountable for results. We offer real responsibility early and a collaborative environment where people support each other to succeed.

What support will I receive?

You will have a dedicated mentor, regular feedback through review and team days and access to specialist training. Our team culture ensures you are never working alone: colleagues share knowledge and help each other overcome challenges

Do you have a US office?

Newton does not currently have a permanent North America office but we’re exploring real estate options in Chicago, and are currently using shared office space in downtown Chicago for our people to meet/collaborate. Consultants are primarily based on client sites during the week and work remotely when not on site. As the US practice grows, our footprint may evolve in line with business needs.

Will Newton sponsor visas for the US Consultant role?

No, we will not be sponsoring visas for the US Consultant role. We’re focusing on US nationals and those with the right to work in the US.

What are some examples of projects Newton has worked on?

We have worked with a range of international clients, including Kimberly-Clark, Mars, McDonald’s, Kellogg’s, Rolls Royce, and BAE Systems.
